As a proactive freelancer I daily meet the challenge of winning business from new and existing clients – from pitching ideas to ensuring my work is delivered on time and to consistently high standards. In the last two years I’ve produced a wide variety of content for Future Publishing, content marketing agency Future Fusion, IDG and Intelligenti Publishing. This includes writing news, reviews and in-depth features as well as subbing, editing and project management of whole magazines and websites, commissioning content and managing staff.
Deputy editor, Future Publishing – 2011-2013
Worked at deputy editor level on two different Future publications – MacFormat and Computer Arts. My responsibilities on both titles included coming up with ideas for news, reviews and feature articles and then either writing them myself or commissioning them out to third-parties. I also took responsibility, while on Computer Arts, for managing its website and social media pages, increasing the quality and frequency of online content for the title’s highly engaged and active international audience.

As a successful freelancer I regularly pitched for and won repeat commissions from leading UK publishers and content agencies including Future Publishing, Future Fusion, John Brown and Republic, often working on key client accounts such as John Lewis, O2, Orange and Tesco. I also produced press materials (including press releases) for a leading travel sector client as well as for Edelman PR.
Associate editor, Future Publishing – 2005-2008
Worked as part of the senior management team on the launch one of Future’s biggest website launches – TechRadar.com. Here I enjoyed developing the editorial strategy and managing the editorial team as well as writing, editing and commissioning content for the website. I was also actively involved in representing the website at international industry exhibitions and events, developing key industry contacts and acting as a spokesperson for the site on TV and radio. Within two years from launch TechRadar regularly attracted two million unique users per month.

As a successful freelancer I regularly pitched for and won repeat commissions from leading UK publishers, including Future Publishing, BBC Origin (now Immediate Media) and Media 10 for whom I wrote a regular column for Channel 4’s Grand Designs Magazine. I was also selected to work as a key member of the editorial launch team for Digital Home Magazine with responsibility for writing, commissioning, editing and project management.

Worked as the technology reviews editor of T3 magazine before being promoted to editor in June 2000.
